Course

Build the foundation every great
music producer needs

This course teaches the core principles of songwriting, sound design, mixing, arrangement and music theory so you’ll understand what every tool does, why it matters, and exactly when and how to use it.

Stop FEELING STUCK.

Start START MAKING MUSIC YOU'RE EXCITED ABOUT

You open your DAW excited to make music…

But before long, you’re stuck.
You don’t know how to improve.

Instead of making progress, you’re back on YouTube searching for another tutorial that leaves you with even more questions.

Sound familiar?

The frustrating part?

Every time you feel you’re improving, it never feels like you’re improving fast enough.

Even if one area of your production is falling behind, the whole track can feel wrong.

That’s because music production isn’t just one skill. It’s dozens of skills working together.

You’re not struggling because you lack talent.

You’re struggling because nobody has taught you the fundamentals in a clear, structured way.

Instead of learning random tips and techniques, you need a solid foundation that helps everything finally start to make sense.

That’s exactly what this course is designed to give you.

I spent years learning the hard way so you don't have to

Today, I’ve released music on over 40 labels, received support from artists including Guy J, Lane 8, Hernan Cattaneo, and Armin van Buuren, and toured internationally as a professional DJ.

But it didn’t start that way.

When I started producing, I taught myself everything. I spent years jumping between YouTube tutorials, reading forum posts late into the night, and trying to figure everything out through trial and error.

Every tutorial taught me something different. Everyone seemed to have a different opinion.

I was constantly learning, but I never felt like I was making real progress.

Meanwhile, producers I’d met who had been making music for only a couple of years were signing tracks to labels I’d been dreaming about.

I kept asking myself, “What are they doing differently?”

It wasn’t talent, expensive plugins or better equipment.

They had a structured path.

They learned the fundamentals first, so every new technique they learned actually made sense.

Instead of guessing, they understood why they were making each production decision.

That’s exactly why I created the Beginner Course.

To give clear, structured path that teaches you the fundamentals every producer needs to confidently write, finish, and improve their music.

My last several tracks sound cleaner, brighter, and more professional because of this course. I highly recommend this to all producers who want to level up!

"I had been producing for around two years, watching endless videos on YouTube and tips from people on social media, but I didn't feel I was making as much progress as I would have liked.

Since joining the academy, my tracks have gone from sounding fairly amateurish to polished and professional within a short period of time. This has resulted in getting them signed to the more established labels within my genre."

Common questions

DO I NEED A SPECIFIC DAW OR PLUGINS?

No, you don’t need a specific DAW or plugins.

The practical sections of the course are taught in Ableton Live 10, but all the information you will learn will be universal across any platform.

The course uses a combination of stock plugins, free to download plugins (I’ve included in the course), and some paid plugins used for demonstration and visual purposes.

The course is 7–10+ hours of video depending on your tier. Most students work through it over 2–4 weeks, but you have lifetime access. Go at whatever pace works for you.

The Beginner Course is built for producers who are early in their journey or who have some experience but feel stuck.

If you’re completely new to music production, get familiar with your DAW first; even a free trial of Ableton or FL Studio will do. Then this course will fill in everything else.

No. Though there is a focus on progressive house, the course revolves around dance music, and it’s most common 4/4 time and phrasing.

The examples are intentionally vague so students aren’t stuck learning from genre-specific material.

The information you’ll learn will work across any genre.

If you struggle to finish tracks, don’t fully understand mixing fundamentals, or can’t yet build sounds from scratch, start here.

What tools will you need?

All you need to enroll in the course is Digital Audio Workspace (DAW).

Don’t have a DAW?

You can get an Unlimited Free Trial here for FL Studio here.

Alternatively you can get a 30-Day Free Trial with Ableton here.

It does not matter which Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) you will be using for the course, as the information and lessons will be cross-platform education.

I will be using standard Stock Plugins. They will be easy to follow and learn from, no matter which DAW you are using. The education will not be DAW specific (even if the Plugin is).

I will also be using Free to Use Plugins that I will be providing access links to before the course for you to download, if you would like to follow along.

If you don’t have access to the same plugins or DAW, the principles and education are not DAW or Plugin Specific. You will be able to use them across all platforms, synths, and hardware.

What Producers Are Saying

“For months, music production felt like a daunting world of complex software and endless technical concepts. But starting lessons with Dowden marked the beginning of a new chapter. His intuitive teaching style helped me unlock my creativity and approach music with confidence and curiosity.

These days, I find myself spending hours experimenting with sound design and testing ideas without even noticing the time pass. I couldn’t recommend him highly enough to anyone looking to grow as a producer and artist!”

"I highly recommend connecting with Dowden on one of the many courses, lessons and masterclasses he has on offer. He is really good at explaining in simple terms more complicated topics and engages so well with the group. I would conceder myself fairly good at producing and still learned a lot on his recent Masterclass. Really helped a few things click. A well presented, in depth sessions covering every aspect of making a prog banger."
Mason JAMES
"I've been DJ'ing for 13 years, but always found music production intimidating and thought I was too old to start. Brenden's beginner course helped me get up and running quickly with a strong foundation. As I've continued learning, I've found myself coming back to the course and getting even more value from lessons that didn't fully click the first time. If you're looking to fast-track your production journey, I highly recommend it!
"I recently took Dowden’s Beginner Production Course, and it was fantastic! Dowden explains the core principles with clear and understandable language, guiding the learner to create an initial track including sound selection, arrangement, all the way up to the mixing process - using only stock Ableton plugins. The course gave me a great foundation to start creating music of my own, and it has greatly inspired me to move forward with my production journey."
Oliver James
"Dowden's Beginner Course bit my bad habits quickly. It opened my ears to what is really going to make the difference in my tracks. His beginner course is real. It's not just someone on the screen telling you what to do. He tells you the why and how while physically showing you in Ableton. His course is second to none and will play a huge role in the advancement of my production career. "
"Dowden is an ace producer and a brilliant teacher of the concepts of making unique and exciting music. I can't recommend his stuff highly enough.

On a personal note, Dowden has also gone over and above to accommodate my personal circumstances. I appreciate you brother."

"Brenden is a very talented artist but is also a very good teacher. He has given me tons of good technical feedback and the confidence to make my tracks better.

He's very encouraging and cares about making you better. Highly recommend him as a coach."
David Bryant
"I would highly recommend the Dowden Production Academy if you are serious about electronic music production.

I had been producing for around two years and was finding it to be a really steep learning curve, watching endless videos on YouTube and tips from people on social media, but I didn't feel I was making as much progress as I would have liked, so I decided to sign up for the Advanced Production Course and join the Masterclass sessions.

This has really helped to step-change my production skills over a short period of time, both on the technical side and creatively. Dowden can talk through complex issues in a really engaging way that is easy to digest and act on. His videos have exactly the right level of detail to be able to learn in bite-sized chunks, and the Masterclass sessions give a rare insight into the process that a successful producer goes through to make a professional track. The one-to-one sessions have been really useful to focus on specific areas that were holding me back, and these are run in a really flexible way to ensure you get the most out of them.

Since joining the academy, I have seen a notable improvement in my tracks, which have gone from sounding fairly amateurish to polished and professional within a short period of time. This has resulted in getting them signed to the more established labels within my genre, including a recent EP that I have just signed to one of my favourite labels!

It has been great to be part of the community as well, where I have had the chance to get to know other producers, which has led to musical collaborations and friendships."
I completed the beginner course. I started producing last year and felt I needed to get some structure and basic music theory to move forward. Lots of people recommended Dowden's course to me when I asked around.

This course helped me understand the why behind production decisions. Showing someone how to do something is very different from explaining why you're doing it, and I found Dowden did both really well. Understanding the reasoning behind techniques helped everything make much more sense.

I would 100% recommend this course. You don't just get the course, you also get access to a Discord community, which I found incredibly valuable. Being able to ask questions, get feedback, and learn from others was a huge benefit.

While some parts are quite technical, Dowden is very good at explaining what's important to focus on now versus what can wait until later. That really helped prevent feeling overwhelmed.

I got my first track signed, and Dowden even mixed and mastered it for me, so it felt like a real team effort. Getting that first signing was a huge milestone and gave me a lot of confidence. Overall, I'm much happier with my production, and the quality of my tracks improved significantly.

"Dowden really takes the time with you, he's great at explaining things that seemed complicated, loved his energy and the session was even more than I expected. I will be coming back pretty soon."
Verónica Botero

"In just over two sessions with Dowden I've levelled up my production game significantly! I really appreciate the way Brenden mentors us via really valuable feedback, specially in my mix sessions. His experience in music really shines through these sessions, and I would really recommend his services to anyone who is trying to achieve that "professional" sound."

The gap between where you are and where you want to be is smaller than you think.

But it won’t close on its own. It closes with better information, a structured path, and the guidance of someone who’s already walked it.
